As early as 16th century, ceramic and silver dishes made a transition from being merely functional pieces used on the table to more elaborate, decorative ware displayed on the wall or in the credenzas. During the 17th and 18th centuries oriental ceramics were fixed to the wall to form part of exotic porcelain cabinet displays.
This exhibition includes over twenty artists who have specifically made a group of plates for this show. flow's walls will be covered with plates in a variety of materials such as ceramics, glass, metal, paper, wood and willow. We hope to highlight the diverse approach artist's take when all starting from this simple, utilitarian form.
Beautifully designed tables will occupy the centre of the gallery. This will not only highlight the decorative display of the plates but will show the table as art object.
