Gail Gulland makes finely cast, translucent and delicately textured ceramic vessels made from bone china and porcelain. She loves working with the simple forms to describe changing light through pattern and surface.

Gail takes inspiration from form and line found in architecture and nature or simply from folded paper or a shadow cast from objects.

Photography, sketching and modelling with paper is the starting point for her work at her garden studio in Hampshire. She uses the process of slip casting using plaster moulds to create repeatable forms which are then manipulated to make each piece completely unique.

Each piece after the casting is hand finished and fired to 1250 degrees centigrade for the clay to vitrify and take on the delicate translucent qualities.
